Welcome back to term 2

Welcome back to term 2. We are looking forward to having the boys back on Sunday evening.  On Friday we had a very successful staff development day. Two significant initiatives have been planned for on this day. The first is the development of a peer mathematics programme developmented by Mr McAlley called Buddy Maths. As parents will be aware we have been conscious of improving the basic core numeracy concepts within the school. Something the numeracy project seems not to be helping boys with.
We also had Carol Lynch from Tim White and Associates come and do a session on effective teacher observations. This is to help stregthen our school professional development model based on teacher inquiry. This year our key focus is on comprehension strategies and follows on well from last years focus on vocabulary.

This term a number of boys will be looking forward to our tour to Hamilton to play Southwell School.

Year 7 plays will be another highlight to look forward to.

Remember that the Open Day is on next Sunday and as such all boys are expected on this day. It is a non leave weekend for boarders until after the Open Day when they can have a free leave for the afternoon.

I wish all the mums a happy mothers day as I sit in my duck hide contemplating a lack of ducks. Amazing thing mobile technology.

Warm regards,
Brad Gay
